What We Believe

The Bible

is the authoritative source of teaching and instructions from God about Himself and is the only reliable guide for life. All that we believe and do should be based on it.

God

is the creator and sustainer of all things, and is three distinct persons in one. God the Father is holy, just, loving, and the universal standard for what is pure and right; our sins grieve and anger Him. He is the ultimate Judge of humanity.

Jesus Christ

is God the Son, the one and only Savior of humanity. He came to earth, miraculously born of a virgin, God in human form, so He could personally identify with our struggles. He is the only person to have never sinned, making Him the only one qualified to be a reconciling "bridge" between people and God the Father, and our only hope for attaining eternal life. He died on the cross, rose from the dead three days later, and ascended to heaven where he now governs the world by his power. He is our advocate before God.

The Holy Spirit

is God the Spirit, a mediator between Christians, the Father and Jesus. Sent to help us understand God's ways, the Spirit works in lives of Christians to produce godly character. The Holy Spirit testifies to God regarding our life.

People

are special creations of God; each one has His image "stamped" on his or her soul from conception. Created to glorify and enjoy God, all people are by nature sinful and thus separated from Him. Still, God loves us so much that He sent his Son Jesus to reconcile us to Himself.

Salvation

is how people are reconciled to God. Jesus, through His death and resurrection, is the way for our sins to be forgiven. We can't earn salvation, it is a free gift from God, available only through Jesus; like any gift, we must choose to receive it. We receive forgiveness for our sins and the gift of eternal life only by faith in Jesus. Our salvation's evidence is confession of Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord (the only One with the authority to govern our lives), repentance (turning away from our sins), baptism, and growing more like Jesus over the course of our lives.

Baptism

Jesus instructed his disciples to baptize new Christians, so we can identify with His death, burial, and resurrection, and publicly declare our faith. Baptism is an act of humble obedience, symbolizing death to our old sinful selves and our new life in Jesus.

Why we worship the way we do

Worship

Christian worship is a way of living life that expresses our devotion to and love for God and Jesus Christ. The Bible instructs Christians to worship God together, and in those times we sing, pray, teach and learn, take communion, and give offerings.

Communion (the Lord's Supper)

Just before he died, Jesus instructed his disciples to remember Him regularly by drinking from a cup of wine (we use grape juice), representing His blood spilled for us and a new covenant between us and God; and by eating bread, representing His body crucified for our salvation. Our communion is open to everyone who confesses Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

Offerings

The Bible teaches that Christians give offerings to thank God for blessings and to support the local church and missionaries. We only expect West K members to give, but guests are welcome to join us in this act of worship.

If you would like further information about these things or anything else you see or hear today, please ask us!
